Barangay Mansilingan B won the second leg of the 1st Congressman Greg Gasataya Inter-Barangay Team Chess Tournament, which recently took place at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) lobby.
The champions beat 18 other teams, finishing with a final score of 19.5 points and winning P10,000. Mansilingan A and Alijis took second and third place, respectively, both scoring 17.5 points, but with the former edging out the latter on Buchholz score (BH), a tie-breaking system.
The runners-up each took home P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.
Gasataya said the primary objective of the tournament is to discover a new breed of chess talent.
“We want to serve as an instrument to help these players get free education as well as support their family needs,” he said. “Entertainment is just secondary.”/WDJ
