A 54-year-old motorcycle driver died in a hospital yesterday morning, after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a truck in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as Edwin Hecita, a resident of the said barangay.
Kabankalan Police traffic investigator, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Adones Sebala, explained Hecita was traveling south when he drifted to incoming traffic in order to pass a parked vehicle in the area.
However, the victim reportedly did not see the incoming truck driven by 24-year-old Deonemel Magalso, which resulted in the collision.
Local residents rushed Hecita to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Magalso was later taken into custody by Kabankalan police, and is awaiting the decision from the victim’s family if they will file vehicular manslaughter charges against him./WDJ
