Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions came out with another superb performance late Sunday to sweep Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts in the finals and capture the 2017 Isuzu 17U Girls Volleyball League title at the Ateneo de Iloilo gym.
Eventual MVP Chrisann Susbilla led the Golden Lions in conquering the Thunderbolts in three straight-sets: 25-15, 25-16, and 25-18. It was also CPU’s back-to-back victory over Tay Tung after surviving the hard fighting Negros Island Region’s champions during the 10th Victor Catedral Plagata Cup last Friday in Bingawan.
En route the finals, Golden Lions swept St. John’s Institute (SJI), 25-19 and 25-12, in the semis while the Thunderbolts outplayed Iloilo City National High School (ICNHS), 25-12 and 25-12, in the other face-off.
Meanwhile, the ICNHS finished in third place after a victory over SJI, 20-25, 25-21, and 25-23.
Joining Susbilla in the individual awardees are Novelyn Gerona of ICNHS as best blocker, Nohlin Jundana of Tay Tung as best server, Angel Canino of SJI as best spiker, and CPU’s Pearl An Denura and Euna Gene Piosca as best libero and best setter, respectively.
