The Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions bounced back from their elimination loss to Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts with a come from behind victory in last night’s finals to capture the secondary girls division title of the 10th Victor Catedral Plagata Cup at the Bingawan town covered gym.
Playing before a full-packed gym, the 2017 Palarong Pambansa bronze medalists found themselves downed in the first two sets: 22-25 and 19-25, but experience prevailed as they fought hard to sweep the last three sets.
En route the finals, Golden Lions won three straight games over Bingawan, Passi City and CenterPhil Montessori, all in two sets.
Host-Bingawan volleybelles, on the other hand, settled for second runner-up after beating Centerphil Montessori in the battle for third.
This annual event, which began in 2005, is played in honor of the late town Mayor Victor C. Plagata, the father, founder, and first chief executive of Bingawan./WDJ
