Jonas “Zorro” Sultan is still the International Boxing Federation Intercontinental super flyweight champion after stopping former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro in 2:07 of the 8th round in a title fight at the Angono Sports Complex in Angono, Rizal.
With the win, the 25-year-old Sultan improved his record to 12-3 win-loss card with 8 victories by way of knockout, extending his winning streak to 3, all by stoppages.
Meanwhile, the Silay-born Jaro dropped his record to 43 wins (30 by KOs), 14 defeats (8 by KOs) and 5 draws. Despite the loss, the 35-year-old reigning WBC International super flyweight champion hopes to return in the world title fight.
Jaro last tasted a world title fight in 2012 when he lost his WBC World flyweight title to Japanese Toshiyuki Igarashi in Saitama, Japan via split decision. Jaro won the title after stopping then champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand in 6th round in the latter’s hometown./WDJ
