Aside from calls for a congressional inquiry, there are plans to bring complaints against the sole power distributor of Iloilo City to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Iloilo City Councilor Joshua Alim wants to lodge a formal complaint against Panay Electric Company (PECO) for alleged violations of the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers.
This is in connection with the no-show of PECO during last week’s hearing conducted by the Iloilo City Council to address complaints of PECO consumers over alleged overbilling.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog called for an investigation after consumers have repeatedly complained of the drastic change in their electric bills.
Alim decried PECO’s absence an act of “arrogance.”
For its part, PECO reasoned that ERC is the proper forum for these complaints and not the Iloilo City Council.
Mikel Cacho Afzelius, PECO communications officer, said the firm wanted a list of specific complaints from identified customers so it could address the issues.
Afzelius added PECO has successfully resolved complaints of customers in the past./WDJ
