Monday of this date last year, everyone walked or drove to the polling precincts to choose a new national leader to lead the Filipino people for the next six years. Everyone could not make a sure guess on who was going to be the next president. The ruling party was just overconfident that it will remain in power for they believed money was the name of the game.
Even the other contenders were just as confident they will make it, knowing money is mighty and powerful. Billions of pesos scattered all over the nation for the past several months up until the eve of the election.
Only one candidate was without billions to squander to convince the voters. The voters supported him and paid for their own stickers, t-shirts, flyers and campaign materials. Until the last moment, his supporters gathered more support.
When voting ended this same day last year, the next couple of days were a moment of mixed emotions. Sixteen million votes were counted for the probinsyano candidate who made his city one of the safest in the world.
Digong made it! Rody won! The Mayor is now President! These were some of the shouts of jubilant supporters. Vote buying failed to deliver.
The man who made Davao City peaceful within his two decades of leadership is now more known as PRRD, PDU30 and DU30.
It’s been more than 10 months now since President Rody holds the highest position in the land. Millions like what he is doing for the country, although some hate his presence as the father of the nation. The then-ruling Liberal Party could not believe until today how they lost the ballgame when all the advantages were in their group. Many believe it was of Divine intervention. The country needed a decisive leader; a leader who does not bow down to the powerful countries in the world; a leader who will go out of his way to protect his people; a leader who cannot be bullied by voters in his own nation.
Today it is unbelievable that the President’s war on illegal drugs and corruption is not being supported by the Catholic leaders. They hate him. Many are asking and doubting why. Meanwhile, Born Again Christians showed support for Rody during the election campaign and until this very moment. Why?
A pastor said they do not collect money the same way the Catholic leaders do. “We receive manna from heaven, and we share to the unfortunate what blessings we receive. That is how we see Christianity, by sharing,” he shared.
In our next articles, you will read thoughts from some community leaders on why the Liberal Party is not supportive of the Duterte administration, and why some religious leaders opt to support those known to be corrupt./WDJ
