Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said private investors willing to put up a sanitary landfill will be welcomed as the local government seeks to address its solid waste management issues.
He admitted, however, that no investors have signified interest yet.
Leonardia said the local government is looking for a suitable spot for a new sanitary landfill even as the City, under his administration, has yet to receive a notice of violation from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) over the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
He also blamed the administration of his archrival former Mayor Monico Puentevella over the mismanagement of the old sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa.
“When I was the mayor, the dumpsite was still hollow but now the garbage is already high as the mountain,” Leonardia said./WDJ
