Two people are confirmed dead, while four others were seriously injured, after a bus slammed into a tricycle in Barangay Tabao Rizal, San Enrique, Negros Occidental, Wednesday afternoon.
Police identified the fatalities as 60-year-old Nelsie Elita and Valeria Rose Labrador, 31; while the injured were Larrence Labrador, 5; Larry Labrador, 31; Melvin Pugarin, 32; and Erlita Española.
San Enrique police traffic investigator, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Anacleto Baliguat, said, based on eyewitness accounts, the tricycle was heading north and closely following the preceding vehicle, when the latter suddenly stopped.
Larry, the driver of the tricycle, turned into the opposite lane and collided with a bus driven by 47-year-old Valentin Narciso.
Bystanders rushed the victims to the nearest hospital, where both Elita and Valeria succumbed to their injuries.
The remaining four, meanwhile, were later transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City for further treatment.
Narciso was later taken into custody by the San Enrique Police Station, and is now awaiting a decision from the victim’s families if they are going to file criminal charges./WDJ
