Following a meeting earlier this week at the Bacolod City District Engineering Office between Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya; Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche; and representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of Bacolod and several local biker clubs, a team will be deployed to Iloilo and Manila to look into the implementation of bike lanes.
Following a 2011 city ordinance requesting bike lanes for the city, the congressman said he wants the team to look into elements including measurements for the said lanes and what types of requirements are implemented.
Under the ordinance, bike lanes or bike-friendly zones are to be established along Burgos Street, from the corner of Circumferential Road, towards Barangay Alangilan and the Bacolod-Murcia Road in Barangay Alijis, to the Bacolod-Murcia boundary in Barangay Mansilingan.
Gasataya added there will neither be parking nor loading and unloading in the bike lanes.
The project is estimated to cost P62 million./WDJ
