A wanted man was killed after he allegedly got into an argument and tried to shoot a police officer along Caduhada Street, Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as 20-year-old Jered Labiga, a resident of Barangay 3, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.
In a preliminary report released by the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, the cop, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Jose Michael Muñez, was in a vulcanizing shop trying to fix his motorcycle when the suspect and his brother, identified only as “Joed,” arrived.
Labiga allegedly shouted profane words towards the cop, challenging him, with Muñez replying by identifying himself a police officer.
The victim allegedly pulled a gun out of his sling bag, but Muñez managed to draw his firearm first, hitting Labiga twice and killing him instantly.
Joed, meanwhile, tried to run from the scene but was apprehended by Muñez.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) are currently conducting an investigation, while Muñez has been ordered to remain inside the La Castellana Police Station for further questioning, the report added.
The victim, meanwhile, has an active arrest warrant in the town of Moises Padilla for a homicide charge./WDJ
