Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo submitted the Negros Island Region (NIR) retention memorandum to the Office of the President, last Tuesday.
“It was received by Ermila Moking of the Office of the President,” he confirmed.
However, Hinlo refused to divulge details of the memorandum.
“The president is studying our appeal,” the DILG official said. “NIR would have been abolished last November if not for the appeal of Negrosanons and the DILG.”
Meanwhile, Hinlo said he is currently organizing a Tourism and Economic Summit in Negros, projected to take place next month, from May 13 to 14.
There is a need for factories and industry in the NIR, he added./WDJ
