James Lozanez of the Western Visayas captured gold in this year’s javelin throw competition at the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in Antique and, in doing so, broke a five-year record.
His 59.46m toss broke the 2013 record set by Central Luzon’s Bryan Pacheco of 57.81m.
Another record was broken on the women’s side, with Sylvian Faith Abunda of Northern Mindanao capturing gold with a 42.85m throw, outpacing the 42.34m record set two years ago by Efrelyn Democer, also from Northern Mindanao.
Meanwhile, Ann Katherine Quintoy of the Negros Island Region (NIR) took silver in the competition.
In secondary boys’ high jump, Cesar Fernandez of Sagay City won gold./WDJ
