NIA community projects to be turned over next month

Around 50 irrigators’ associations are set to sign the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) contract, which is in line with the free irrigation service provided by the national government, and intended to avoid compromising operation and maintenance incentives of local irrigators.
According to the National Irrigation Administration-Negros Island Region (NIA-NIR), the contract will cover farmland across Negros Occidental, through the Bago River Irrigation System (BRIS) and Pangiplan River Irrigation System (PRIS).
NIA-NIR manager, Engr. Mario Sande, said they are focused on increasing crop intensity, generating and developing new areas, and rehabilitating and restoring irrigation systems.
Meanwhile, 20 community projects are set to be turned over in a ceremony in Bacolod City next month, May 2.
Five projects will be managed by the Negros Occidental Irrigation Office, while the other 15 are under the Negros Oriental Irrigation Office./WDJ
