Four suspected shoplifters were arrested after they were caught in the act of stealing inside a major mall in Bacolod City, yesterday morning.
Police identified the suspects as Ariel Ferrer, Richard Gilogo, Resty Giganto, and John Colorado, all residents of Purok Dauis, Barangay 14 of the said city.
Police Station 1 (PS1) commander, Police Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, said the four are notorious shoplifters and guards of the mall grew suspicious after they spotted them.
When the four were caught in the act of stealing inside one of the shops, a foot chase ensued inside the mall and a scuffle erupted between the guards and the suspects after they tried to fight them off.
The four were hauled off to PS1, while one of the guards needed first aid after incurring minor injuries during the scuffle.
However, Tolentino stressed, the four suspects will soon walk free after the shop owner is reportedly trying to make an affidavit of non-interest.
“It’s the complainant’s obligation to file a case against the suspects to teach them a lesson,” he explained. “There is no monetary requirement and we only need their cooperation in positively identifying them.”
The four are due to be released today after serving their 24-hour reglementary period./WDJ
