Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan, who topped the polls for city council in last year’s elections, announced his plans yesterday to run for Congress in 2019.
With the possibility of a second congressional district for the city, Tan noted, he will still pursue the position even if he is forced to run against his Grupo Progreso (GP) partymate, incumbent Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya.
When pressed on the “Mo-Ca” issue, or a possible tandem with former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella, he said he doesn’t mind because he has supporters who support both Puentevella and current Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Tan added, in 2016, he planned to run as an Independent, but joined Leonardia’s GP coalition after he was invited.
Meanwhile, he said he already informed the mayor his intentions to seek higher office immediately after winning his city council position./WDJ
