Around 188 individuals were apprehended by members of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) on the second day of the city’s implementation of the anti-jaywalking ordinance.
BTAO head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, said most of the violators were minors who did not have the money to pay the required first offense fine of P100.
He said, to serve as a lesson, minors were given community service.
Acebuche noted the decrease in the number of apprehensions yesterday, calling it an indication the public is now aware of the anti-jaywalking ordinance.
Fines paid by offenders will be used to buy new equipment for the city’s traffic enforcers, he added./WDJ
