Provincial Chief of Hospitals, Dr. Leonardo Eusebio, who was previously serving concurrently as acting Negros Occidental provincial administrator, recently revealed government hospitals are both over their bed capacity and lacking doctors to treat the overflow of patients.
According to the provincial official, public hospitals in the province are currently 173% over bed capacity while lacking doctors, who Eusebio recognized are paid around P40,000 less than those who practice at private establishments.
“We hire consultants, especially surgeons and those into internal medicine, to make up for the lack of regular doctors,” he explained.
Last week, Eusebio was relieved of his provincial administrator duties, while hospital chiefs in Cadiz City, Himamaylan City, Escalante City, and Sipalay City were reshuffled./WDJ
