While speaking during the Earth Hour 2017 observance at SM City Bacolod over the weekend, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Negros Island Region (DENR-NIR) Director, Dr. Al Orolfo, discussed climate change and urged those gathered to help in mitigating the global phenomenon.
“Climate change is beyond a political issue but rather a present phenomenon,” he declared. “It is not just putting out the lights, it is also using our gadgets, appliances at home, and cars wisely that it can be a demonstration of our actions to mitigate climate change.”
Bacolod City Councilor Em Ang, who represented Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, echoed the sentiment by the local DENR head, “I hope we all go home tonight remembering that our solutions to climate change does not involve only one hour every year.”
“It has to be a continued effort on all of us to make our world climate change resilient,” she added.
