A woman was killed, while her live-in partner was wounded, after they were shot inside their home at Purok Medalla Milagrosa, Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City, late Sunday evening.
Police identified the fatality as 27-year-old Maricar Marañon, a native of Punta Playa, Barangay Poblacion, Bago City.
The wounded was, meanwhile, identified as 48-year-old Melchor Flores, a resident of the said barangay.
Senior Police Officer 3 (SPO3) Rammy Sayson, lead investigator for Police Station 9 (PS9), said the victims were sleeping inside their room when two gunmen, one of whom was identified as Jose Rommel Jolito of Bago City, allegedly broke into the house and a scuffle ensued between Flores and the suspects.
One of the suspects pointed an unknown caliber of firearm, which Flores tried to slap away.
However, the firearm fired and Flores was hit in the finger. The bullet then struck Marañon in the neck, killing her on the spot.
The suspects fled after the incident, while Flores was brought to the Bacolod South General Hospital for treatment.
PS9 is currently looking into the possible motive of a love triangle, as both Marañon and Jolito were previously in a relationship.
Police are also still trying to identify Jolito’s accomplice./WDJ
