The 21st Sinigayan Festival opens today in Sagay City with a Grand Opening Parade, featuring Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III, Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr., and Sinigayan Foundation President, Engr. Primitivo Rivera, Jr.
An opening program will take place at the city’s public plaza with Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Austere Panadero as guest of honor and Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. also giving an address.
A series of festival villages will also be on display, including the Bugay Sagay Agro-Aqua Festival Village, the Dagway-Sagay Arts and Culture Village, the Tali-ambong Food and Entertainment Village, and the Livestock and Poultry Fair Exhibit.
Each village will have their own unique festival activities showcasing arts and culture, harvest from the land and sea, local cuisine and livestock, and poultry showcasing.
Department of Education (DepEd) Night takes place on Friday, March 17, when the Harvest of Excellence Awarding Rites take place. The Sinigayan Queen Pageant 2017 will also take place on the same night.
On the following day, ABC Night will take place.
The Sinigay sa Sagay Saot para sa Dunang Manggad with Hara kag Hari 2017 will be showcased on the final day of the festival, March 19.
Pre-festival activities that took place include a clean-up drive and painting of waiting sheds in Barangays Paraiso and Fabrica, a switch-on ceremony illuminating the Himoga-an Bridge, Voice Idol of Sagay Kids and Teens, Sinigayan Motocross, Offroad Duathlon, Trisikad Race, among other events./WDJ
