In a press conference, yesterday, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia revealed a proposal was sent to the three owners of the old Bacolod Airport to convert the 37-hectare property into a special economic zone (SEZ).
“The old Bacolod Airport is a sleeping giant, he said. “If stimulated, [it] can produce economic activities and benefit the city.”
Ownership of the land is split between the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Lucio Tan Group of Companies.
